COACHELLA ENERGY FACTORY | Temporary structure for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California | Built in April of 2007 |

Size: 4,900 S.F. | Budget: $15,000 | Client: Global Inheritance / Goldenvoice |

Project Brief: The need to span 70' clear to provide shade for 70,000 concertgoers and Global Inheritance activities coupled with the constraints of cost ($15K), sustainable procurement (materials had to come from a 20 mile radius from Indio), construction (by students in 5 days) and fire safety drove the project solution.

The structure is made of self supporting lashed utility pole tripods (1,800 lbs. each), 800 lb-test Spectra Line used in big game fishing, 5' x 15' agricultural fire-rated shade cloth panels and temporary foundations designed to offset the lift generated by 80 mph winds.

Project Team: Juan Azulay, Lex Moloney, Jared Sopko, David Fletcher, Julia Fuller, Chad Moore, Ben Rice, Greg Thorpe, Fadi Dabbous, Leo Rolon, Jesse Amarillas, Tim Do, Randy Stogsdill, Nascar, Bruce Danziger (ARUP)
